The Quire, directed by Dr Francis Roads, was formed in February 1997 and is composed of a diverse group of welcoming people who enjoy making music together. New singers and instrumentalists are welcome to attend one or two trial rehearsals but there is no formal audition. Visitors to London are welcome to attend one or more rehearsals, by prior arrangement, without further commitment. Most of our repertoire is in four parts, for SATB voices and instruments double the vocal parts. The music is not technically difficult and players of an intermediate standard should be well able to cope. West Gallery music was composed particularly with amateur singers in mind. There is a small subscription which covers all music. We rehearse fortnightly, from 7:30 until 9:45 pm, in St.James, Garlickhythe, a Wren-designed church ( picture ) noted for the high level of natural light admitted through its upper windows, and consequently known as "Wren's Lantern". Rehearsal dates (Summer Term, 2008): Rehearsal dates (Autumn Term, 2008): How to get there: Tube: Mansion House or Cannon St For more details, please contact: |
